Wednesday, October 21, 2026 — The Gap Up Fails at R1, Monday's Low Goes at 11:30, and the Floor Is Now 22,662

NIFTY futures opened at 22,993.0 on Wednesday after the Dussehra break, 98 points above Monday's close and inside the daily CPR. It ran straight up to 23,135.0, through R1 and the Camarilla H4, reversed through the open on the 10:00 bar, lost Monday's 22,866 low at 11:30, and made its low at 22,662.0, within three points of S2 (22,664.9). The close was 22,745.0, down 150.2 points (-0.66%) on a 473-point range, 83 points above the low.

Monday's recap named 22,866 as the floor to watch and said a loss would put 22,807 and 22,780 next. That happened inside an hour.

Order Flow Analysis

An opening drive that tagged R1 and nothing more

The 9:15 bar was the day's heaviest by a distance: 11.09K volume with 62.35% on the buy side and a delta of +2.74K, with price driving from the 22,993 open up to R1 (23,095). The 9:30 bar added +523 and printed the 23,135.0 high, 40 points above R1. Cumulative delta peaked at +3.26K there. OI Sense read Short Covering through the opening push.

Reversal through the open

The 9:45 bar turned negative (-361) and the 10:00 bar delivered -995 on 4.7K volume (60.59% sell), carrying price back through the 22,993 open: an Open-Rejection-Reverse. From 10:15 to 11:00 the market balanced just under VWAP between about 22,935 and 23,000 on small deltas (+11, +33, +110, -77), cumulative delta still near +2.0K. VWAP started the day near 23,100 and fell all session.

The 11:15 and 11:30 break

The 11:15 bar printed -1.14K on 2.74K volume (70.81% sell) and the 11:30 bar -1.41K on 4.29K volume (66.42% sell): -2.55K in two bars, swinging cumulative delta from +1.98K to -569. The 11:30 bar took out Monday's 22,866.2 low, and OI Sense flipped from Short Covering to Long Unwinding on the same bar, staying there for the rest of the session.

The slide to S2, and the last bounce

The 12:00 and 12:15 bars added -557 and -510 and carried price through Camarilla L3 (22,807) and S1 (22,780). From 12:30 the market built a base between about 22,662 and 22,760, with cumulative delta grinding from -2.17K to -3.68K at 14:45 on bars like -590 at 14:15. The low printed on the 14:30 bar, three points above S2. The only real buying came at 15:00 (+564 on 60.23% buy volume), and the market closed at 22,745.0, still 150 points under a falling VWAP (about 22,895).

NIFTY order flow, October 21, 2026

15-minute footprint. A +2.74K opening bar to R1, a -995 reversal at 10:00, then -1.14K and -1.41K at 11:15 and 11:30 as Monday's low failed and OI Sense flipped from Short Covering to Long Unwinding. The base at S2 ran from 12:30 to the close.

Key Order Flow Takeaway

  • The opening drive tagged R1 (23,095) and printed 23,135.0, then reversed — an Open-Rejection-Reverse back through the 22,993 open on a -995 bar.
  • -2.55K of delta in two bars (11:15 and 11:30) took out Monday's 22,866 low and swung cumulative delta from +1.98K to -569.
  • OI Sense flipped from Short Covering to Long Unwinding at 11:30 and stayed there.
  • Every level Monday's recap named went in order: 22,866, then 22,807 and 22,780, then the S2 area at the low.
  • A close 150 points under VWAP, with one buying burst (+564 at 15:00) as the only real recovery.

Market Profile Analysis

Wednesday builds a b-shape: a long thin upper part from the 23,135 high down through about 22,990 (the A to D periods), a drawn-out middle, and a wider base around 22,680 to 22,760 where the POC sits at 22,727.1. The TPO count at the POC is [55/10], 55 above it and only 10 below, which is the profile saying the market spent nearly all its time above where it ended and then collapsed into one small zone. The value area runs 22,678.6 to 22,989, and a Poor Low is tagged at the 22,662 extreme.

A b-shape is the structure that usually follows heavy selling from the top of a range. The close, 22,745, is inside the value area and only 18 points above the POC.

NIFTY market profile, October 21, 2026

30-minute TPO. A long thin top from the 23,135 high, a wider base around the 22,727.1 POC, a value area of 22,678.6 to 22,989 and a Poor Low at 22,662.

Structural Levels

For Thursday, from today's H/L/C (23,135.0 / 22,662.0 / 22,745.0): a 102-point CPR (TC 22,796.2 / BC 22,898.5) with a bearish lean, both ends lower than Wednesday's and the close below it. The weekly CPR (22,761 to 22,996) has the close below it for the first time this week.

Resistance

  • 22,796 / 22,847 / 22,875 / 22,898 — the CPR top, the pivot, Thursday's Camarilla H3 and the CPR bottom: a four-level cluster.
  • 22,982 — Thursday's Camarilla H4.
  • 23,033 — Thursday's R1, and above it today's 23,135 high.

Support

  • 22,662 — today's low, the Poor Low and the S2 area.
  • 22,615 / 22,560 — Thursday's Camarilla L3 and S1.
  • 22,509 — Thursday's Camarilla L4, and below that S2 at 22,374 and the weekly S1 near 22,602.

Options and Futures OI

By the 3:15 pm check, PCR had gone from 0.92 at the open to 0.69, max pain from 23,050 to 22,900, and futures OI was down 3.6% on a falling price — longs bailing, which is what Long Unwinding reads. Inside the ±15 strike window calls added 888L against 265L of puts, with the biggest writes at 23,000 CE (+72L) and 22,800 CE (+58L).

Heading into the day, FIIs held a net short of about 280K index futures contracts, up from 273K as they added about 7K on Monday, and DIIs were net long near 56%. The shorts that were being covered last week are being added back.

Trading Implications

The continuation case. A rejection at R1, a -995 reversal bar through the open, -2.55K of delta in two bars at 11:30, Long Unwinding for the rest of the session, a close 150 under VWAP, a bearish-leaning CPR above price and a close below the weekly CPR all point lower. Calls are being written at 22,800 and 23,000.

The bounce case. The low tagged S2 within three points, the last real bar was a +564 buyer, and the profile closed inside value with the POC 18 points under the close. A reclaim of the 22,796 to 22,898 cluster would turn today into a one-day flush.

The level that decides it. The 22,662 low is the floor. A loss of it puts 22,615 and 22,560 next. A close back above 22,898 argues for a retest of 22,982.

Conclusion

The holiday broke nothing: the market came back, gapped up into R1, rejected it in 45 minutes and then spent the rest of the day walking down the same ladder Monday's recap had drawn. Thursday opens with a bearish CPR, a close under the weekly CPR and a floor at 22,662.
